So, you’ve decided to buy refillable shower bottles and you found some that you really love.
The only problem is, you don’t know if they’ll fit in your shower niche.
Choosing the right shampoo bottles for your shower niche can make a big difference in maintaining an organized, stylish bathroom.
If you’re investing in refillable bottles, you want them to fit well in your space, function smoothly, and complement your bathroom’s aesthetic.
Here’s how to choose the perfect size bottles to enhance both your shower’s functionality and appearance.
Measure Your Shower Niche
The first step in selecting the right shampoo bottle size is to measure your shower niche accurately. Use a measuring tape to record:
Width: Measure the inner width of the niche from side to side (left to right). If your niche isn’t the same width throughout, measure the width at the most likely position you will place your shampoo, conditioner and body wash bottles.
Height: Check both the height from the shelf base to the top and also measure the space between any existing shelves. Height is super important since refillable bottles come in many different sizes and so do shower niches. Don’t forget that you have to account for not only the bottle height in your niche, but your hand clearance too.
Depth: Measure the distance from the back of the niche to the outer edge. Ideally, the depth of your shower niche or ledge should be at least three inches for most standard size shampoo bottles.
Having precise measurements will help you find bottles that fit without crowding or looking out of place.
If your niche measures, in any direction, partial inches or centimeters, then round down when looking for bottles to allow for a slightly roomier fit.
Decide on Volume Based on Product Usage
Next, think about how much shampoo, conditioner, or body wash you (and anyone you share this shower with) typically use.
For smaller households or minimalists, a bottle size of 10 to 16 ounces is usually sufficient. For families that share a single shower amongst four or more people, or those with more extensive hair care routines, larger bottles, such as eighteen to thirty-two ounces, might make more sense to minimize frequent refills.
Having a set of matching sizes will also create a cleaner, more unified look.
Factor in Pump Head Clearance
Not all refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles are equipped with dispensing pumps, but all Bottiful Home refillable bottles are. And that’s because pump heads are essential for easy dispensing and minimizing bottle handling during shower time. They do require some additional space in height to ensure you can place your hand above them to pump the contents out of the bottle.
Measure how much room the pump will need when fully extended. Some companies show the dimensions of their refillable bottles with the pump locked down. But, at Bottiful Home, we always provide measurement of the bottles when the pumps are fully unlocked and in their “up” positions.
Pumps can add up to 2-3 inches in height alone, and you’ll also need to account the for extra hand space needed to use the pump properly. I recommend allowing for at least 2 inches above the top of your pump for easy use and to avoid having to remove the bottles from the niche to use them.
Choose the Right Shape for Stability
Bottles come in various shapes—round, square, oval, oblong and more. If your shower niche is compact, square or round bottles are often ideal as they maximize shelf space and can sit flush against each other. Round bottles tend to be more stable when dispensing than any other shape of bottle because there is no flat edge to tip over if you’re a little unsteady in your pumping. That’s why all our refillable bottles are round in shape with a wide stance. They’re considered a squat design and are the most stable shape overall.
Consider the Material and Weight
Since bottles will be handled frequently, lightweight plastic is usually the most practical choice. If you choose plastic, make sure it’s BPA-free and durable enough to withstand daily use and even a few drops and spills. Wet shower, wet hands and slippery surfaces occasionally means a drop or two will inevitably occur.
Lots of people love clear shower bottles, but if you want a more designer look, consider choosing a rich color to enhance your décor. I offer three neutral colors in most of my bottles that all coordinate well with any bathroom décor.
Think About Refilling Convenience
When it comes to refilling your bottles, opt for wide-mouthed designs and removable pumps to make the process easier. This is especially helpful for thicker liquids and decanting bulk shampoos and conditioners.
For bottles that aren’t wide-mouth, I offer twist-on funnels that make refills easier, even for bottles with smaller openings.
Style That Complements Your Bathroom Decor
Finally, aesthetics play a role. It’s probably the primary reason you’re looking to purchase refillable shower bottles. The size and style of your bottles should align with your bathroom’s overall look. Choose bottle sizes that don’t overwhelm the niche but still offer a polished, cohesive look. All Bottiful Home bottles are designed to maximize space, minimize clutter and make your shower look its best!
Choosing the perfect size shampoo bottles for your shower niche combines practical measurements with personal style. By focusing on dimensions, shape, functionality, and style, you can create a shower setup that’s both efficient and visually appealing. Properly sized, your shampoo bottles will keep your bathroom organized, reduce clutter, and add a touch of elegance to your daily routine.
