Round Bottles Are Smarter Than You Think - Hear Me Out

Round Bottles Are Smarter Than You Think - Hear Me Out

I’ve spent eight years designing, improving and selling refillable bottles.

Very early in the process of starting my business, I made a decision to start with selling round bottles.

I could always move to other shapes and designs later.

After all this time, I’ve never added another shape to my catalog, and it wasn’t for lack of creativity or growth.

Round is More Stable

As much as some of the other bottle shapes look nice, they also act like drunken grannies in a windstorm sometimes.

It doesn’t take much to knock them over.

Maybe that doesn’t matter much to you, but it’s a true aggravation for me so I’ve never been willing to offer a bottle that I couldn’t brag about how stable it is.

One of the things I love most about my bottles is that no matter how aggressively you pump them, they won’t tip over on you while you’re handling or using them.

I won’t go into the physics and science behind it but I can tell you that a round bottle that’s wide enough at the bottom to support its own height is a much more stable bottle than a square, a trapezoid, a tall slim bottle, a tottle or any other shape you can find.

Round is Easier to Hold Onto

All of my bottles are designed to be used in wet environments, whether in the shower, at the bathroom sink or the kitchen sink.

Wet, soapy hands are not as good at gripping things as dry hands.

When you pick up your bottles to refill them or move them to a different location in the shower to pump them, I want you to be able to keep a good grip on the bottle.

Having square bottles, slim bottles or other shapes requires you to adjust your grip in your fingers to the edges you can squeeze and try not to squeeze the parts with corners.

This may be ok and less noticeable of an inconvenience with slimmer bottles, but as we’ve already discussed, slim bottles have other problems that can’t be overlooked.

A round bottle is a more comfortable and natural shape to grip with your hands when you need to move them around.

As long as you grip the bottle with enough strength, a round bottle should be the most comfortable and natural to hold onto.

Round Feels Calmer

You may not realize this outrightly, but round shapes create more flow.

It’s something to do with the air movement and visual flow that happens when you see round things versus things with edges.

Edges, lines and corners block visual flow and you can feel it, whether you realize it or not.

In your beautifully appointed spa bathroom, I want you to feel more flow visually.

This isn’t a woo-woo concept.

It’s one reason we find certain things so satisfying, like the moon, a rainbow, bubbles and droplets of water.

Maybe we like round things because they indicate a form without end.

Or maybe it’s because round things naturally leave breathing room when placed closely together.

Whatever the reason, round bottles let you feel more at ease and at peace than any shape that has edges and corners.

Never Say Never

This doesn’t mean I would never offer any other shape of bottle than round.

If you like square bottles or slim bottles, go ahead and get them.

I would rather you get something you like than talk you into something you think you should have.

I will always prefer the flow that round bottles give me over the squares or the interesting design of other shapes because I care both about how they look and how they perform when used.

While my catalog is still fairly young and small, there’s only room for round bottles, for now.
