Why Every Order Comes With a Little Peace

Why Every Order Comes With a Little Peace

I’ve been selling refillable bottles for more than eight years at the time of writing this.

Several mistakes, victories and valleys later, I realized I accidentally commoditized my own products.

How and why this happened is a discussion for another post, but the realization created a change in me and my approach to Bottiful Home as a business.

For some reason, I was having a difficult time verbalizing and communicating the value behind my brand.

Yes, I made high quality, useful products, but why were my products valuable to people?

Why would they buy from me instead of someone selling a cheaper knock-off product you can get just about anywhere?

For a long time, I didn’t have an answer to that.

After a lot of prayer, internal dialogue, and questioning everything, I went back in time to ask myself why I created this business in the first place.

While that may sound like a simple solution, it was anything but.

You see, if you had asked me at the time I started Bottiful Home why I wanted to do it, I would have said something like, “Because I need a new challenge,” or “because I want this product and no one sells a good one that works well and is ready out of the box without a lot of additional effort or expense,” or even “because I believe I’m led to do it.”

And these answers, while all true, weren’t complete enough to help me or you understand why you should buy from me instead of someone else.

Instead, I had to go deeper than that.

I had to ask more questions of myself, of others, of God.

And what I realized after all that asking is that the real reason I created refillable bottles that make shower products look better is because of peace.

At that time in my life, I had very little of it.

I was working a corporate role in finance, was a single mom to a toddler who I only saw for a couple hours each evening before bed time and on weekends and I was constantly feeling like life was hard.

And I had money.

Lack of money wasn’t an issue.

Peace of mind was the real issue.

Every moment of every day was filled with thoughts that revolved around solving problems at work, solving problems with raising my child and fixing problems that felt like they were draining my life energy.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but being in problem-solving mode every moment made me hyper-critical and hyper aware of things that disrupted my flow in any way.

That fact, combined with my naturally critical eye led me to discovering that mismatched shower bottles all over my shower weren’t just unattractive.

They were invading my peace of mind.

And that was only possible because my peace of mind was already so frail and out of reach at the time.

So why do I sell refillable bottles to make your shower look more beautiful?

Because I know you work hard.

I know you’ve earned everything you have.

And in the midst of all the responsibilities, the juggling, the striving, I want to give you one space you can walk into and feel like it’s calm, peaceful and finished.

There will be more projects and things to improve when you leave this comfort space.

But for now, tucked inside your master bathroom, you can be at peace.

And that’s why I give my hand-drawn sticker that says “Peace on Purpose” to every customer who orders from me.

It’s a small signal that I’m transferring a little more peace from me to you.

I hope you like it.
